Former NSG Chief J K Dutt succumbs to COVID-19
GA Bureau, New Delhi, May 20 : India reported 2,76,110 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. India’s overall tally of COVID-19 cases reached 2,57,72,440. Daily deaths were recorded below 4,000 after four days. 2,87,122 have died from Covid so far, according to the Union Health Ministry latest data released on Thursday.
A total of 3,874 deaths due to COVID-19 were registered in the last 24 hours.
Former NSG chief JK Dutt, who led NSG Commandos during 2008 Mumbai attack, died of Covid-related complications on Wednesday. He was undergoing treatment at the Medanta Hospital at Gurgaon after his Oxygen saturation started declining rapidly. He was 72.
Meanwhile, active Covid cases in India have further reduced to 31,29,878, comprising 12.14 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 86.74 per cent, as per national Covid data updated at 8 am today.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease reached 2,23,55,440, while the case fatality rate was registered as at 1.11 per cent.
